The Move To Delhi FC
On June 12th, 2021, he signed for DSA Senior Division club Delhi FC. The club participated in 2021 Delhi 2nd division Qualifiers with the aim of qualifying for the I League 2nd division. Jangra was again in the spotlight as he managed to create 3 goals in a 7-o rout against Rangers SC. The team was undefeated in the group stage and they marched on towards the qualifying stage with one thing in mind, to win the qualifiers.
Jangra scored his first goal for the club against Indian Air Force in the final. Despite losing to them on penalties Delhi FC were still nominated to play in the I league 2nd division. Many scouts had kept an eye on Jangra as they were impressed with his performances in the 2nd division qualifiers. Hence they were planning to lure him away from Delhi FC, however the striker had brushed aside any transfer rumours emerging as he said that he was fully committed to playing for Delhi FC.
He was part of the club’s impressive run in the Durand cup 2021. Delhi FC had beaten Indian Super League giants Kerala Blasters by a goal however a 1-0 victory was enough for the club to book its quarter-final spot. Delhi FC, unfortunately, crashed out of the tournament as they were thrashed by FC Goa 5-0.
Jangra scored his second goal for the club when they defeated Kerala United FC in the 2021 I league qualifiers preliminary stage. Jangra’s impressive form couldn’t help Delhi FC qualify for the I league as they were knocked out in the final stage of qualifiers.
The future of Indian Football?
The young prospect has garnered a lot of attention recently as he is dubbed to be the next ‘Sunil Chetri’, Himanshu’s technical skills and eye for goal has made him into a lethal forward, and his ability to find the back of the net worries defenders. Jangra’s pace and versatility has made him into a modern-day striker who can not only run behind the channels but also use his frame to protect the ball and contribute to the build-up play.
On 7th October 2021, he was included in The Guardians 60 Next Generation players list, he became only the second Indian to be named in the list after Bikash Yumnam made it in the 2020 list. It will be interesting to see how he fairs going forward as he has the potential to be a world-class striker who could dominate the proceedings of the game and it is just a matter of time before he finds himself on the roster of any of the ISL (Indian Super League) teams.
