Al Boum Photo wins back to back Gold Cup’s

Al Boum Photo makes history with the first back to back win in The Cheltenham Gold Cup since Best Mate in 2002-04.
The 8 year old ridden by jockey Paul Townend held off the hot pursuit of Santini on the home straight and managed to cross the line first by a neck. The gelding making history and digging deep to see off the opposition coming up the famous hill. Santini as a result, missing out on the Coral Gold Cup by fine margins whilst Lostintranslation came in third.
Willie Mullins and Paul Townend celebrated another victory in the biggest race of the Festival, winning back to back Gold Cup’s with Al Boum Photo. Al Boum Photo’s win gave trainer Willie Mullins a fantastic-four of winners on Gold Cup day.
Jockey Townend quoted “I thought I’d never feel anything like the feeling I had here last year but I think this is even better,” said Townend. “It’s all about this, it’s all about this lad. Unreal, it’s a credit to Willie. To come here with one run this season, the man’s a genius.”
Al Boum Photo places himself in the record books following a thrilling finish and joins the ranks of greats such as Best Mate and Kauto Star.
