Australian Open: Kyrgios wins five set thriller to progress to fourth round
Nick Kyrgios beats Karen Khachanov to set up a fourth round draw against Rafael Nadal
Nick Kyrgios is set to face top seed Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the Australian Open after an epic five set thriller against Russian Karen Khachanov.
The Australian went two sets up against Khachanov however was brought back to two sets all after losing two tie break sets in a row.
The 24 year old dug deep in front of a home crowd to see off Khachanov in a final set tie break. The 3rd round tie lasted just shy of four-and-a-half hours.
Kyrgios is now set to face the Spaniard in the fourth round at Melbourne Park on Monday. Kyrgios currently leads 2-1 in his head to head record over Nadal on hard courts although the Spaniard leads 4-3 on all surfaces.
The Spanish top seed cruised through the third round in a straight set victory against Pablo Carreno Busta on Saturday.
