Dimitri van den Bergh Wins PDC World Matchplay

Dimitri van den Bergh caused a shock at the PDC World Matchplay by beating Scottish World number nine Gary Anderson, 18-10 in the final on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old Belgian and World number 16, made his World Matchplay debut in his tournament. Hitting a maximum 170 finish to level the match at 6-6 before easing away against the favourite Anderson.

Van Den Bergh twice finished with the bullseye in producing 124 and 132 checkouts to go 14-8 up. From that moment van den Bergh continued to dominate proceedings to claim the £150,000 winner’s cheque at the end of the night.

Dimitri Van Den Bergh now moves up to 12th in the World rankings ahead of the Unibet Premier League which starts in August. The competition which normally takes place across the country with one night of matches per week has been rearranged and is now to be held across six days in August all in Milton Keynes, the event will be shown on Sky Sports.

Gary Anderson beat Michael Smith to reach the final on Saturday night, whilst Dimitri van den Bergh beat Michael van Gerwen’s conqueror Glen Durrant.
